My Design & Deliver by Esta Suma Design & Deliver is Leeds West Indian Carnival’s Arts Council England supported programme to support and nurture talented young people aged 18-35 with an interest in gaining skills needed to play an active role in Caribbean Carnival. Since 2014, working with partners including BBC Radio Leeds, BBC Look North, BBC 1Xtra, Carnival designers and West Yorkshire Playhouse, Design & Deliver has provided opportunities for participants to shadow experts in the creative and production aspects of Carnival including, photography, videography, presenting, events management and costume design. Pop Up Carnival Returns!

Head to Masham Market Place in North Yorkshire on Sunday 6th May as Europe’s longest running Caribbean Carnival parade brings wow factor to Stage 4 of the 2018 Tour de Yorkshire . Leeds Pop Up Carnival’s jaw dropping costume creations, high energy dance moves, joyful soca and calypso music are all set to transform Masham with an unexpected slice of Carnival in the heart of God’s own county.  Over 30 stunning costumes adorned with gorgeous feathers, glittering gems and sparkling sequins will join mini parades from the Town Hall leaving at around 1.30pm and 4.30pm. Leeds Carnival 50 King & Queen Show is Friday evening!

Always a highlight of the Leeds Carnival, the 50th anniversary King & Queen Show is finally here, taking place Friday evening at a sold out West Yorkshire Playhouse. A lot has changed since we started Europe’s first Carnival 50 years ago, and it’s safe to say being able to stream the entire event to the world live was something we never expected to be able to do. International Stars arrive for Leeds Carnival 50

Leeds Carnival never fails to attract the biggest names, and they’re out in force this weekend for our 50th birthday. We are privileged to welcome Barbadian soca music star Edwin Yearwood (pictured above) to Leeds, with the “Soca King” appearing across the city to join the celebrations with us. Carnival Chronicles tickets now on sale

Tickets are now on sale for the new play, Carnival Chronicles, commissioned especially for Leeds West Indian Carnival’s 50th year. In this moving play, charting a love story spanning 50 years, from the Caribbean to Leeds, Melody and Cyril tell their story of migration, love, loss and celebration. Carnival Chronicles is embroidered with key moments and images from Leeds West Indian Carnival’s half century history and the real life memories of the pioneers and community that brought Carnival to the city.
